The islands of Antigua and Barbuda are two jewels nestled in the Eastern Caribbean, north of the islands of Guadeloupe and Montserrat and south of St. Martin, St. Barth and St. Kits. Antigua is the largest of the two islands stretching lengthwise for 14 miles and across for 11 miles, its peak being Boggy Peak (1319 ft). St. John’s on Antigua is the capital of the two islands as well as the uninhabited island of Redonda, where English is the official language.

The beaches are the main asset on the islands, with over 360 beaches on Antigua alone, most of these lie on the Caribbean side of the islands, where they are protected by the calm waters and by the coral reef that lies just off the coast. The island offers warm and steady winds and ideally protected harbors in which to anchor boats and yachts.

Barbuda’s coast is a continual stretch of pristine and smooth white and pink sandy beaches protected by the coral reef, which mostly lie on the southwestern shore, while those facing the Atlantic ocean are rougher, although perfect for beach-combing.

While the beaches are the strongest asset of the islands, there are other interesting sites to explore, such as the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, a charming oasis in the center of Antigua which recounts the history of Antigua and Barbuda with a display of fascinating exhibits and traditional objects.
At Shirley Heights one can admire an array of military sites that offer striking views over the bays. At the Sea View Farm Village one can browse through Antiguan 18th century folk pottery made by the slaves that lived on the islands.

The weather on the islands is generally mild with a low rate of humidity, as the northeast trade winds blow regularly. Temperatures vary from mid-eighties in the summer to mid-seventies during the winter months.
