The country is densely forested in the southern and western regions with savannah plains in the north and mountainous areas in the west. The coast offers plenty of wildlife, notably a great variety of species of birds along the coast and other wild animal species in the Comoë National Park and the Abokouamekro Game Reserve.

Abidjan is the largest city in the country and the former capital, with Treichville as the traditional part of the city with its colorful central market, bars and restaurants. The ifon Museum and National Museum exhibit historic artifacts, statues and ivory.

The resorts of Assouinde, Tiagba and Grand Bassam are beautiful beach sites, offering sandy beaches and tourist attractions, although the strong currents of the Gulf can be hazardous.

The climate is dry from December to April, with heavy rainfall from May to July and October to November, the north being more extreme part of the country.

The climate is tropical, with the rainy season going from June to October and the dry one from December to April. The temperatures vary according to the altitude, although on the coast the temperatures are high as well as the humidity.
