Abidjan is the largest city in the country and the former capital, with Treichville as the traditional part of the city with its colorful central market, bars and restaurants. The ifon Museum and National Museum exhibit historic artifacts, statues and ivory.

The resorts of Assouinde, Tiagba and Grand Bassam are beautiful beach sites, offering sandy beaches and tourist attractions, although the strong currents of the Gulf can be hazardous.

The climate is dry from December to April, with heavy rainfall from May to July and October to November, the north being more extreme part of the country.
